Mangrove Warbler
Recently released from the unfair association with the Yellow Warbler, the Mangrove Warbler now stands alone with full species status. Hooray for the Mangrove!!
Quilatoa Crater Lake
South of Quito, Ecudaor, Quilotoa Lake sits at 12,500 feet in the Andes. The vocano erupted 800 years ago and the dome collapsed forming the lake. We dined outside on the rim on August 18. It was 6 C and wind was 30 kph. A little chilly for the equator. For reference, Mt. Robson, the talest mountain in the Candian Rockies is 12, 972 feet.
Rough-legged Hawk
I photographed this Rough-legged Hawk hovering through my sunroof. It started dropping and getting closer. Finally dropped right in front of my truck about 6 feet in front and about ten feet into the ditch on passenger side. Not enough time to move to that side and shoot around the mirror.
Espanola Lava Lizard
Lava lizards are another group of unique Galapagos species. Each major island has their own species.
Galapagos Giant Tortoise
Each island has its own subspecies of these tortoises that can live up to 150 years. This is a large one so probably over 100 years old.
